March for Marrow Walk
For 35 years, the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation has been working to provide education, support, and hope for patients living with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and related bone marrow failure diseases. Each year we put together an unforgettable morning dedicated to raising awareness about these rare diseases. For the first time this year, we will be moving to Northshore Park in The Woodlands. Join us in the park for a great day!
Help us raise awareness for bone marrow failure disease!
Make a difference, help a patient. Don't delay!
You can register online through Thursday 3/28/19 for the walk, or on site on Saturday 3/30/19. Our goal is to have 500 people walking for bone marrow failure diseases.
Join us - register yourself, build a team, become a virtual walker or make a contribution to support our efforts.

The Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation (AAMDSIF) is the world's leading nonprofit health organization for patients and families living with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and related bone marrow failure diseases.
The Foundation’s strength stems from the multi-faceted community it developed over 30+ years. AAMDSIF serves and educates the patient population and health professionals and provides financial support to clinical researchers searching for better treatments and cures.
For 13 consecutive years, AAMDSIF has earned a coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest rating awarded by America’s largest independent charity evaluator. Only 1 percent of all American charities achieve this recognition for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.
This event would not be successful without the volunteers who serve on these committees.
The Houston event committee is a wonderful group of Texas volunteers who work together throughout the year to plan this event! Thank you to our committee members for all of their hard work!
The success of this event depends on our volunteers!
Please consider volunteering at the March for Marrow Walk Houston. There is a volunteer role for everyone and we would love for you to get involved!
To get involved with the planning email our volunteer coordinators Heather and Ronald Porter.
Look for more opportunities to volunteer as the event approaches!
2019 WALK STAR: MICHELLE SILLENCE
Michelle Sillence experienced months of fatigue, bruising and low blood counts before she was finally diagnosed in May 1999, at age 21, with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS, raebt, refractive anemia, excess blast, in transformation). She was treated with induction chemo at North Shore LIJ in Manhasset NY.
In October 1999 she had experimental chemotherapy, radiation and an unrelated bone marrow transplant at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle WA. At the time of her diagnosis and transplant she was given a 1 in 4 chance of survival.
Michelle says that for years she participated in various cancer related events, but never really had the opportunity to participate in an organization that was specific to her bone marrow failure disease. Three years ago, Michelle became part of the March for Marrow family after meeting Ron Porter, our 2018 Star. On October 7, 2018, she was blessed to celebrate her 19th “birthaversary”! Now we are blessed to have her and her husband, Adam, on our Team.
Our thanks to these supporters who help the March for Marrow possible and ultimately make a difference in patients' lives.
