Frontier Fiesta March for Marrow 5K Run & Walk
For almost 35 years, the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation has been working to provide education, support, and hope for patients living with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and related bone marrow failure diseases. Each year we partner with the Frontier Fiesta to put together an unforgettable morning dedicated to raising awareness about these rare diseases. Join us in the park for a great day!

The Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation (AAMDSIF) is the world's leading nonprofit health organization for patients and families living with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and related bone marrow failure diseases.
The Foundation’s strength stems from the multi-faceted community it developed over 30+ years. AAMDSIF serves and educates the patient population and health professionals and provides financial support to clinical researchers searching for better treatments and cures.
For 12 consecutive years, AAMDSIF has earned a coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest rating awarded by America’s largest independent charity evaluator. Only 1 percent of all American charities achieve this recognition for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.
This event would not be successful without the volunteers who serve on these committees.
The Houston event committee is a wonderful group of Texas volunteers who work together throughout the year to plan this event! Thank you to our committee members for all of their hard work!

The success of this event depends on our volunteers!
We need many volunteers to make Frontier Fiesta March for Marrow 5K Run & Walk a fun and successful event.
We are expecting a large turnout of walkers, runners, patients, family members, medical personnel, supporters, caregivers and community sponsors.
There are many volunteer spots available from Committee Member, race promotion, race packet pick-up, site set-up, parking, security, registration, water tables, post race refreshments, first aid station, course monitor, official photographer, finish line cheerleader, and site clean-up.
On the day of the event, volunteers are needed anywhere between 6:00 am - 12:30 pm. Click to view the full list of volunteer jobs, descriptions, and times below.
To get involved with the planning email our volunteer coordinators Heather and Ronald Porter.
Look for more opportunities to volunteer as the event approaches!
2018 WALK STAR: RON PORTER
In 2012, Ronald Porter was diagnosed with Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH). After joining a local Community of Hope support group, Ron learned about the resources at Houston Methodist where he was more correctly diagnosed with aplastic anemia with a smaller clone sized PNH.
Ron tried Immunosuppressive Therapy Anti-thymocyte Globulin (ATG) to put the diseases into remission. Then in October 2013, he went through a bone marrow transplant.
Ron just celebrated his fourth "re-birthday" disease free and he serves as our Volunteer Coordinator with his wife, Heather!
Our thanks to these supporters who help make this walk and run possible and ultimately make a difference in patients' lives.
