Dr. Christin DeStefano is a triple-board certified hematologist/oncologist, Hematology/Oncology Division Director for the Department of Medicine at USU, Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program Director at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and Hematology/Oncology Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General. Her research interests deal with lymphoid and myeloid malignancies, immunodeficiency, and cancer epidemiology in military members. Dr. DeStefano co-leads the Clinical Research team at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and also serves as Principal Investigator (PI) on multiple research protocols which include prospective clinical trials as well as epidemiologic studies assessing cancer risk and outcomes in military personnel.
Dr. Drew Helmer is the Deputy Director & Professor at the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety at the Michael E. DeBakey Veteran Affairs Medical Center & Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Helmer is an expert in the effects of military exposures and deployment. His research interest include: deployment-related health concerns of Veterans, quality and utilization of ambulatory care and Chronic Multisymptom Illness/Gulf War Illness.
He was a champion for the revisions to the Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Chronic Multisymptom Illness in 2014 and 2021 and serves as member of the Gulf War Veterans’ Illnesses Research Advisory Committee to the US Secretary of Veteran Affairs.
