March for Marrow 5K Run & Walk
Los Angeles 2019
For 35 years, the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation has been working to provide education, support, and hope for patients living with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and related bone marrow failure diseases.
2019 is the 10th Anniversary of the March for Marrow Los Angeles - join us to celebrate our first decade and to help us find a cure for bone marrow failure disease. Our 5K has the distinction of taking place along the beautiful stretch of shoreline that is part of the Long Beach Shoreline Marina. With the iconic Queen Mary in the background, the course is scenic, flat, and regardless of weather, ideal for beating one's personal best.
Help us raise awareness for bone marrow failure disease!
Make a difference, help a patient. Don't delay!
You can register online through Thursday 4/25/19 for both the 5K and walk, or on site on Saturday 4/27/19. Our goal is to have 500 people running and walking for bone marrow failure diseases.
Join us - register yourself, build a team, become a virtual walker or make a contribution to support our efforts.

ABOUT
The Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation (AAMDSIF) is the world's leading nonprofit health organization for patients and families living with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and related bone marrow failure diseases.
The Foundation’s strength stems from the multi-faceted community it developed over 30+ years. AAMDSIF serves and educates the patient population and health professionals and provides financial support to clinical researchers searching for better treatments and cures.
For 13 consecutive years, AAMDSIF has earned a coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest rating awarded by America’s largest independent charity evaluator. Only 1 percent of all American charities achieve this recognition for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.

2019 WALK CHAMPION: Camilla Ricci, Aplastic Anemia and PNH Patient
Camilla’s life was completely changed in 2001 when aplastic anemia and PNH became her challenge. For over 15 years, she felt completely depleted of energy and was dependent on frequent blood transfusions to stay alive.
Camilla traveled to AAMDSIF conferences looking for answers for ten years and was alone every time. She had very little support and the burden was heavy. It was always a great comfort to see committee member, Ruth Cuadra, at the conferences; Ruth always shared her encouragement and strength.
Today Camilla is in a clinical trial called APL-2 and this new treatment has given her her life back. Camilla says she is very grateful for the research and development of these new medications that are bringing hope to many patients with rare diseases like her. As 2019 Champion she says, “Thank you for coming out to support this amazing cause.”
In the photo to the right, Camilla walks in the 2017 March for Marrow with best friends and monthly blood donors, Liz Bernardo and Richard Stokes. Camilla is eternally grateful to both Liz and Rick for literally keeping her alive and getting her to all of her treatments and transfusions. Besides being a loving caregiver to Camilla, Rick is one of March for Marrow's most enthusiastic supporters and is the creator of the Poker Walk.
This photo is from the first ever walk in Los Angeles, Hope, Steps & A Cure Los Angeles 2010. It was held in collaboration with the Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer Challenge on Saturday, January 18, 2010 at Cal State Dominguez Hills and the Home Depot Center (now the StubHub Center).
To Camilla’s right is Ruth Cuadra and to her left is her friend, Liz Bernardo.
