March for Marrow 5K Run & Walk
Los Angeles 2018
For almost 35 years, the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation has been working to provide education, support, and hope for patients living with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and related bone marrow failure diseases. Join us for the 8th Annual March for Marrow 5K Run & Walk and help us find a cure for bone marrow failure disease. Our 5K has the distinction of taking place along the beautiful stretch of shoreline that is part of the Long Beach Shoreline Marina. With the iconic Queen Mary in the background, the course is scenic, flat, and regardless of weather, ideal for beating one's personal best.
Help us raise awareness for bone marrow failure disease!
Make a difference, help a patient. Don't delay!
You can register online through Thursday 4/26/18 for both the 5K and walk, or on site on Saturday 4/28/18. Our goal is to have 500 people running and walking for bone marrow failure diseases.
Join us - register yourself, build a team, become a virtual walker or make a contribution to support our efforts.

What to Expect
Festivities include a 5K run and 1- or 2-mile walk, patient and family memory board, Moment of Remembrance, silent auction, light refreshments, inspirational speakers, and a day of fun connecting with fellow patients and families affected by a bone marrow failure disease, raising funds to support AAMDSIF's patient programs and services. Plan to spend your morning and afternoon with us!
Top runners receive prizes from Brooks Running Shoes, Runners High, and NIKE.
Participant medals and Goody Bags for everyone.
The first 300 walkers or runners to register will receive our unique dri fit t-shirts (unisex sizes).
New for 2018! Join us for the Poker Game Walk
Poker Game Walk – As part of our 1-mile/2-mile walk at Shoreline Village, we are introducing an exciting, new activity – a poker game to be played during the walk. People will have the option of obtaining/purchasing a $5 six-part game sheet during registration (both on-line and at the site). During the walk, there will be five-stops where you can pick a card from a deck. You also have the option, at the last stop of choosing another (6th) card for $1. The winning hand(s) – in case of ties – will receive a prize. All proceeds will go toward the walk. The walk itself is a very enthusiastic part of the day’s activities, and this will merely add to the excitement.
Are you planning to spend the night or several nights in Long Beach? We have great accommodations at the Hilton Long Beach. The special rate is only available for the night of Saturday, April 28th. Details on how to book this rate are forthcoming.

The Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation (AAMDSIF) is the world's leading nonprofit health organization for patients and families living with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and related bone marrow failure diseases.
The Foundation’s strength stems from the multi-faceted community it developed over 30+ years. AAMDSIF serves and educates the patient population and health professionals and provides financial support to clinical researchers searching for better treatments and cures.
For 12 consecutive years, AAMDSIF has earned a coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest rating awarded by America’s largest independent charity evaluator. Only 1 percent of all American charities achieve this recognition for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.
This event would not be successful without the volunteers who serve on these committees.

The success of this event depends on our volunteers!
We need many volunteers to make March for Marrow 5K Run & Walk a fun and successful event. We are expecting a large turnout of walkers, runners, patients, family members, medical personnel, supporters, caregivers and community sponsors. There are many volunteer spots available. Click to view the full list of volunteer jobs, descriptions, and times below. On the day of the event, volunteers are needed anywhere between 6:00 am - 12:30 pm.
To get involved with the planning email Stephanie Hamm.
Look for more opportunities to volunteer as the event approaches!
2018 WALK CHAMPION: KRISSY KOBATA
Krissy Kobata was diagnosed in 2009 with MDS, a bone marrow failure disease. She has needed a bone marrow transplant every since diagnosis but no one in her family is a match.
Because Krissy is Japanese and Caucasian, she has made it her mission to find more mixed-race donors for the National Marrow Donor Program through Be the Match and Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches. This year she will be going through a transplant with an unrelated donor as we plan for March for Marrow.
As Krissy says, “Bone marrow transplants are not a perfect solution so I ask each of you to walk or run with us to find a cure.”
Our thanks to these supporters who help make this walk and run possible and ultimately make a difference in patients' lives.
